How to measure your radiator?

There are two basic types of radiator designs. Either a downflow radiator which means the tanks are on the top & bottom (fig.1) or a crossflow where the tanks    are on the side (fig.2). In a downflow radiator the coolant flows from the top tank to the bottom tank. In a crossflow radiator the coolant flows from one side to the other side.

When measuring the first step is to determine whether it is a downflow or a crossflow style. Once that is determined you can start measuring. Standard measurements on a radiator are typically just of the core itself (measurements A&B).

  1. First measurement is always the height of the core between the tanks (measurement A).
  2. Second measurement is always the width of the core (measurement B). Do not measure the top & bottom rails or the side channels because they will vary depending on manufacturer.
  3. Third measurement is the depth of the core (measurement C). Easiest way is to insert a wire through the core until it becomes flush with the other side and mark the the depth with your thumb or finger and pull out and measure.
  4. Fourth measurement is the header sizes (measurement D & E). This is only needed sometimes but its good to know what they are when inquiring about a radiator.

From here you should have all the necessary measurements to determine what radiator you have.

Are your products new or reconditioned?

All of our products sold are brand new unless otherwise specified as a recore or reconditioned. The best thing is that most of our units are actually O.E.M.  meaning they're built by the same manufacturer as your original.

Can you provide installation instructions?

Most of the time we are able to provide you with some installation instructions. At the time of purchase ask us and if they are available in our database we will be more than happy to enclose some instructions with your unit.

Do I need to flush my cooling system before I put new cooling system parts on?

Although it is always recommended to flush your cooling system any time new parts are installed it is not absolutely mandatory. We recommend every 2 years or 30k miles regardless of needed service even with or without long-life coolants. Maintenance is key to a long lasting cooling system.
